If you missed the incredible light show from Mother Nature last night, you’re in luck. The aurora borealis, or northern lights, may be visible again tonight, November 12, and it could be an even more spectacular show. So charge up those cameras.
The northern lights made a rare appearance on November 11 with sightings reported as far south as Alabama and Florida, and as far northeast as New Jersey and Pennsylvania. If you didn’t stay up, or are heading out again to chase the aurora, you’ll have another chance tonight to see the sky aglow in dancing streams of color.
NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center reported in an updated forecast that another storm is on its way that could make for just as good of a show as last night. Based on the latest NOAA aurora forecast map, these 17 states appear fully or partially above the aurora view line.
The northern lights photos from around the U.S. this week blew our minds. Check out our favorites of the aurora from across the country.
York, Maine

The aurora borealis lit up the sky over Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine last night. “This was a much stronger geomagnetic storm than I experienced a little over a year ago. The colors were super vibrant and clearly visible to the naked eye.” (Photo: 617images.com @617images)
Monroe, Wisconsin

The aurora borealis lit up the night sky over Monroe, Wisconsin, on November 11, 2025, during one of the strongest solar storms in decades. The geomagnetic event pushed the northern lights deep into the continental U.S, with vibrant pink, red, and green hues illuminating rural farmsteads and open fields across the Midwest. “Massive red overhead aurora raining down from the sky during yesterday’s severe G4 solar storm produced some of the best northern lights that I have ever seen in my entire life. The sky was filled with an intense red corona, and the aurora spread in every direction.” (Photo: Tucker Olson @tuckolson)

Northern lights in San Diego? “A bit late to the party, I started my shoot at 10 P.M. hoping to capture the lights glowing above one of my favorite places in the world. Car camping and all, I managed that and even got lucky with a lunar halo, with the aurora dancing on either side as the moon rose.” (Photo: Stan Moniz)

“If you can believe it, this is looking south near Buffalo, South Dakota, and as the corona was absolutely ripping overhead with reds and greens, a big fireblall of a meteor ignighted across the sky right into frame.” (Photo Aaron Rigsby @aaronrigsby)

Pictured are the northern lights over Lake Nottely, Georgia, on Tuesday night. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing with the naked eye, but the long exposures off the camera were even more jaw-dropping. The fog across the surface of the lake that I illuminated with a flashlight during some of the long exposure photos made for some otherworldly scenes.” (Photo: Brandon Montgomery)
