The Indian women’s cricket team celebrated a historic milestone with a thrilling 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on November 3, clinching their maiden 50-over World Cup title. To mark the achievement, captain Harmanpreet Kaur got a tattoo of the World Cup trophy inked on her bicep, showcasing how much the title means to her.
Kaur shared the image on Instagram, describing the design as “forever etched in my skin and my heart.” She added, “Waited for you since day 1, and now I will see you every morning and be grateful.” The post quickly drew attention, underlining the personal significance of the victory for the India captain, who led her team to their maiden World Cup triumph.
In the final, India posted a competitive total of 298 for 7 even though rain halted the game briefly. Opener Shafali Verma laid the foundation of the Indian innings with a quickfire 87, supported by Deepti Sharma’s steady 58. South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, responded with a brilliant 101, but her team fell short of the target, bowled out for 246, leaving India with a 52-run victory. The margin of victory reflected India’s balanced performance with both bat and ball.
Earlier, India had reached the final after defeating seven-time champions Australia in the semi-final, chasing down a mammoth 338, with Jemimah Rodrigues scoring a century to secure the win.
The victory marks India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup title in the 50-over format, following earlier final appearances in vain in 2005 and 2017. This time, the team completed their campaign flawlessly. Harmanpreet Kaur’s trophy tattoo now serves as a permanent reminder of the historic triumph – commemorating the squad’s determination, their memorable tournament run, and a milestone a decade in the making.
