Reality TV star and entrepreneur Masika Kalysha is mourning the tragic loss of her estranged husband, Jamar Champ, who died in a devastating car accident in Houston.
According to KHOU 11, the fatal crash occurred just after midnight on October 27 on Interstate 10 near Washington Avenue. Investigators reported that a BMW traveling the wrong way collided head-on with Champ’s Tesla Cybertruck, causing the BMW to burst into flames. The force of the impact pushed the Cybertruck into a nearby semi-truck. Both drivers were killed at the scene, prompting officials to close the freeway during the early morning commute.
While authorities have yet to publicly confirm the victims’ identities, Kalysha’s emotional post on X (formerly Twitter) appeared to acknowledge the heartbreaking loss.
“God woke me up at 2:00 a.m… I couldn’t sleep. I didn’t know why. Jesus Christ, I just received the worst news of my life. Pray for me and my kids, please,” she wrote.
The message quickly drew an outpouring of condolences and prayers from fans and fellow celebrities as the Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood star grieved publicly.
Champ, 38, was a former college football player and entrepreneur. He and Masika married in 2021, but their relationship faced challenges in later years. In January 2024, reports surfaced that Masika had filed to annul the marriage, though it remains unclear whether the annulment was finalized.
The couple shared a young daughter, Amari, and Jamar was also involved in the life of Masika’s older daughter, Khari, whom she shares with rapper Fetty Wap.
Masika Kalysha, 40, rose to fame through her roles on ‘Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood’ and ‘Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta.’ Beyond television, she’s built a successful business empire, launching her cruelty-free beauty line Khari Barbie Beauty, named after her daughter. Known for her candor and resilience, Masika has often spoken about the challenges of balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and life in the spotlight.
Authorities continue to investigate what caused the wrong-way crash, including whether impairment or other factors played a role.
