John Cena has broken his silence and once again confirmed his retirement date. Ending the speculations and rumours, Cena confirmed that he will retire from in-ring action on December 13. His final match will be at the Saturday Night’s Main Event. “Despite any speculation or rumors, on July 6, 2024 I announced I would retire from WWE in ring participation. I am far from perfect but strive to be a person whose word has value. 12/13/25 will be my final match,” Cena wrote on X.
“I am beyond grateful for every moment WWE has given me. I am excited for 12/13 & look forward to seeing all of you one last time,” he added.
Cena announced his retirement at Money in the Bank 2024. The 17-time world champion also announced that he would participate in a farewell tour, which will end in December 2025. Cena made his in-ring return at the Royal Rumble 2025.
He won the Elimination Chamber to earn Wrestlemania’s main event. Cena defeated Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania to become a 17-time world champion. He retained the title till SummerSlam.
Cena, who defeated AJ Styles at Crown Jewel 2025, has four more dates in his farewell tour. The future WWE Hall of Famer will make two more Raw appearances before performing at Survivor Series. Cena will retire on December 13.
Who will Cena face in his last match?
John Cena is likely to face Gunther in his last match. The Ring General defeated Goldberg in his last match and he seems to be in line to face another WWE legend in his last match.
Cena has never squared off against Gunther. Gunther is a two-time World Heavyweight Champion and a one-time record-breaking Intercontinental Champion. He won the WHC at SummerSlam 2024. He lost the title to Jey Uso at Wrestlemania 41. Gunther defeated Uso on Raw after Money in the Bank to regain the title, which he lost to CM Punk at SummerSlam 2025.
