Green Bay Packers edge rusher and Penn State alum, Micah Parsons, wasn’t pleased that Penn State fired head coach James Franklin on Sunday.
Parsons posted the following on social media:
While it appeared that Penn State and Franklin might be heading toward a divorce after the team lost its third straight game on Saturday—a shocking fall from a grace for a team ranked No. 3 in the country before its losing streak—it seemed far more likely that it would come after the season.
It certainly wasn’t a cheap decision:
But it was a decision that was coming. Franklin consistently brought in solid recruiting classes and kept Penn State in the mix during his 12-year tenure, but he struggled to win big games, won just one Big Ten title and only reached the College Football Playoff once.
A change was probably needed for a Penn State program that has been more bridesmaid than bride in the Franklin Era. The midseason axing was jarring, however, and Parsons was among those who didn’t like the decision.
