For an extremely famous celebrity, Robert Pattinson is particularly adept at dressing like a regular person. In his personal life, the English actor has long had an affinity for off-trend denim and nondescript gym attire that borders on schlubby. But ever since RPatz and his fiancée, the actress and singer Suki Waterhouse, welcomed their first child in March 2024, Pattinson says his impulse to wear “normie” staples has only grown stronger. Instinctive, even.
“It’s like, there’s this gravitational pull,” the actor recently told Icon magazine. “Like, I have to wear Patagonia puffer jackets and cargo shorts now. I just have to.”
Pattinson—who does, in fact, wear both Patagonia puffer jackets and cargo shorts—also said he was “surprised” at how fatherhood has changed him.
“I have so much more patience. It’s funny, it’s not even patience; I genuinely enjoy hanging out with babies,” he told the magazine, per a snippet from a yet-to-be-published cover story that was shared to Instagram. “It’s also funny how you start having real, normie conversations—about things like schools or daycares.”
In November, Pattinson will star alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Die, My Love, a dark-comedy thriller directed by Lynne Ramsay. While promoting the movie at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the actor honored his preferred dress code by looking like a cleaned-up, heartthrobby normie in khaki trousers and Chuck Taylors.
“I think in the most unexpected way, having a baby gives you the biggest trove of energy and inspiration afterwards,” Pattinson said at a Cannes press conference. “Ever since [my daughter] was born, it’s reinvigorated the way I approach work. Yeah, it’s just, you’re a completely different person the next day.”
