Aimee, viewed the FIP Silver TMT Indian Open as a significant learning experience against elite competitors. She noted the contrasts in training and game strategies between Indian and European players.
For India’s rising padel player Aimee, the FIP Silver TMT Indian Open wasn’t just another tournament — it was a learning curve played out against some of the world’s finest.
“It was exciting,” she said, reflecting on her match against top seeds Marcella and Victoria. “But I guess we got to learn a lot. They had a lot more experience than us. We don’t really play outside of India, so we don’t know how people train or what they’re doing daily when it comes to padel. It’s been good to see how players from outside approach the game. A lot of Indian players are getting good exposure here, so it was humbling. It was nice, but overall, it’s been an exciting day.”
The exposure, she believes, is what Indian players need most. “At the Asia-Pacific Padel Cup, we played Asian teams, but we’d never played Europeans before,” Aimee said. “They have so much patience — you have to give your 110% to win even one point. It was good, lots to learn — positioning-wise and game-wise.”
The FIP Silver event marked her first international-level tournament on home soil, a milestone for Indian padel. “This is my first FIP event ever,” she admitted. “Compared to IPTs and other tournaments I’ve played in India, it’s a huge difference. The level is intensely high, and the players are very calm with their game. You learn so much from them. I’d say it’s been massively different.”
Aimee is clear about what India’s padel ecosystem needs next: “Just more courts and more awareness about the sport — that’s how every game grows. There’s a lot of scope for padel in India if we get the right exposure and training. We’re on a good track right now; we just have to keep going.”
And when asked how she’d introduce the sport to someone new, her answer was simple: “It’s a mix of tennis and squash — that’s the best way to describe it.” Then came her trademark smile: “It’s just fun — simple and fun!”
As the padel wave slowly builds across India, players like Aimee are proving that passion, patience, and persistence can bridge the gap between local courts and the global stage.
