Acclaimed actor and filmmaker Konkona Sensharma, known for her powerful portrayals and socially conscious storytelling, is back on screen as ACP Sanyukta Roy in Search: The Naina Murder Case. In a chat with Zoom, Konkona opened about the show and more.
Konkona talks about women’s safety on film sets
In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, Konkona opened up about a topic she feels strongly about, women’s safety and representation on film sets. Reflecting on how much has changed in the past two decades, she said, “20 years ago there were far fewer women on set and and and now there are more and they are all often for practical things. For example, if you want more women on set, you have to have better bathrooms. Many young women don’t go to school because they don’t have access to good bathrooms. Or because our travel is such that you do need like proper pickup and drop in the middle of the night and things like that and safety.”
Questioning intention of many men, the actress added, “You have to look out for these things. There are so many men who have such predatory behaviour. How do you deal with that? We’re still learning but it’s only through conversations I guess that we can start marginally making a difference.”
