Two YJ editors tested Amazon’s best-selling pair of yoga leggings. The results were not what we expected.

Yes, yoga is about far more than the physical–still, we all need something to wear to class. And, if you’re like us, you get a satisfying endorphin hit when you snag a good deal on yoga leggings (even if you already own enough pairs to warrant a designated leggings drawer).
When I saw these Sinophant High-Waisted Yoga Leggings were on sale for $6.39 for Amazon Prime Day, I was extremely skeptical. Less than 10 bucks for leggings? Surely they’d rip in half the second I came into Down Dog or disintegrate upon the first wash.
Curiosity won out in the end and another YJ editor and I decided to put them to the test on and off the mat.

Pros
Verrrrry Soft
First impressions? These *do not* feel cheap. We’d estimate the material to be in the $30 to $40 range based on touch alone. They live up to their “buttery soft” description.
Super High Rise
The leggings also deliver on the high rise. They landed even higher on my body than I thought they would (several inches above my belly button, although I have a shorter torso), but it didn’t bother me because of how lightweight and unintrusive the material is.
Waistband Stays in Place
During a 20-minute home practice, which took me into Dolphin, Child’s Pose, and Happy Baby, I didn’t feel the need to yank the waistband up once, which is impressive. The fabric moved easily with my body and I never felt restricted. Another editor tried them out while sitting at the computer working and found them to also be a comfy work from home option.
Decent Compression
I would describe the compression as mild. As one of our editors says, “I appreciate the fact that it’s not super compressive to the point where I can’t breathe, but if I were someone who liked more compression, I might be disappointed.”
Material
As someone who has almost all but written off leggings that aren’t mostly cotton, I wasn’t super psyched about the polyester/spandex hybrid of the Sinophant leggings. But even I was pleasantly surprised by how breathable they were, probably because of how thin the material is.
Cons
Larger Sizes Are More Expensive
After consulting the product’s size guide for my ideal fit, I was disappointed to see that adding a “3X-Large” to my cart upcharged me by almost $2. Bigger sizes costing more isn’t new, but it’s always a bummer.
And even though the sizes 3X-Large and 4X-Large are listed as options, it seems as though they’re only available in black.
Too Much Fabric
Putting the leggings on for the first time felt like putting on a pair of tights in that I had to pinch and inch them up my body to spread out the thin mass of fabric. Our other editor says she’d consider opting for the capri length next time since the full length is waaaaay too long.
Some Colors Not True to Description
One of our editors ordered the black tie-dye, although in person it looks more deep purple than black. “The pattern matches what’s on Amazon, but the coloring definitely does not,” she explains.
Material
The description mentions the leggings aren’t see-through, but I had to see for myself. They passed the “practicing Down Dog facing away from a mirror and awkwardly turning around to see whether my underwear was showing” test.
However, I then performed the “practicing Standing Forward Bend facing away from a mirror and awkwardly turning around and pointing my phone flashlight at my butt” test and DID see my underwear, albeit very subtly. In a dim yoga studio, I’m guessing no one would see anything inappropriate. In the fluorescent lights of a gym, however, I’d be more hesitant to do any type of forward bend.
If you’re looking for the cooling quality of other, higher-end leggings, you probably won’t find that here, either.
Our Verdict
Overall, the Sinophant yoga leggings checked more boxes than a lot of other way more expensive leggings I’ve worn in the past. And for that price point? We say they’re definitely worth a try.
