Channing Tatum clearly never skips chest day. Seems like he never skips shoulder day, arm day, or leg day, either. But you know what’s harder than getting gains? Finding a suit that suits the gains.
For most jacked guys, tailoring tends to pinch and pull in all the wrong places. Suits aren’t generally made for the massive. But at the Los Angeles premiere of Roofman, his new crime comedy also starring Kirsten Dunst and Ben Mendelsohn, Tatum turned up in what might just be the perfect double-breasted suit for swole fellas.

The conventional wisdom says that big, buff lads should stick to single-breasted tailoring. Double-breasted jackets, the thinking goes, can make you look wider and squatter by drawing the eye horizontally. But last night, the Blink Twice star defied the laws of menswear physics with a DB that accentuated his frame in all the right ways.
Tatum kept things nice and simple with a classic black tie and white shirt layered beneath a deep navy suit. Finished with strong shoulders and fanged-out lapels, it’s a silhouette that’s been worn by Hollywood leading men since… well, forever. But here, the jacket was specifically tailored so that it dropped past the hips to elongate his frame (not that a six-foot-one guy needs the help, but big muscle can make one look shorter). His roomy trousers and glossy black dress shoes finished things off perfectly.
It’s not the first time Tatum has ignored the so-called style commandments. Take another oft-cited guideline: burly boys should stick to slimmer pants. Yet, last August, Tatum showed up to The Tonight Show in some of the biggest trousers we’ve ever seen. Which, really, is what menswear is all about: experimentation and fun.
So yeah, finding a suit when you’re shredded is tough work. But that shouldn’t stop you. And if you need a little inspo, drop Channing Tatum into the middle of your mood board right now.
