There are few brands out there right now worthy of the title of America’s next great everyman brand. But Buck Mason keeps making its case—the latest evidence being its latest follow-up collaboration with the denim legends at Lee.
The first Buck Mason x Lee link-up pulled pieces excavated straight from Lee’s ’40s-era archives—nerdy historic details and all—and sold faster than you could button a fly. A straight restock would’ve been the easy play, but if you’ve been following Buck, you know that simply running it back isn’t quite the brand’s M.O.
Instead, the duo mined the archives again and resurfaced the Westerner set, a deep-cut 1960s collection that briefly stood as a more dressed-up alternative to Lee’s rough-and-ready denim.
The revival lands in Japanese cotton sateen, stonewashed for a vintage hand and cleaner drape. The lineup: the Westerner Jacket, a twill take on Lee’s iconic denim Rider jacket with repro brass tack buttons; the Westerner Shirt, a snap-front with sawtooth flaps and Japanese hardware; and the Westerner Jean, high-rise, slim-straight with archival “Lazy S” back pockets, copper rivets, and a Talon 42 zipper. Everything comes in either black, khaki, or natural, so mix and match to your heart’s content. You can wipe off the drool from your gob with the collaborative cotton bandana, too.
Few brands can honor Lee’s heritage this faithfully. Buck Mason’s stayed true to the archive where it counts, and upgraded it where it could. We won’t say it tops the original set—but, damn, it’s close. So if you don’t want to end up fishing this release out of the vintage bins in 60 years, then you’d better not sit on it.
The entire Buck Mason and Lee Westerner collection is available online at Buck Mason and Lee, and we suggest you saddle up quick.
