Makhachev challenges for welterweight title in UFC 322 main event
Islam Makhachev will take a shot at UFC history in November.
The former lightweight champion vacated that belt not long ago so he could move up to welterweight. There, he’ll get the first crack at new champ Jack Della Maddalena’s belt. A win will make him the latest fighter to hold titles in two separate UFC weight classes.
Makhachev (27-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC) challenges Maddalena (18-2 MMA, 8-0 UFC) for the belt in the UFC 322 main event Nov. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Maddalena upset Belal Muhammad in May with a five-round unanimous decision victory.
Makhachev beat Renato Moicano in January for his fourth title defense since he won the championship over Charles Oliveira in October 2022. He also holds two UFC title wins over Alexander Volkanovski and one over Dustin Poirier.
In the video above, check out a marathon of Makhachev’s wins over Arman Tsarukyan in 2019, Drew Dober in 2021, his title win over Oliveira in 2022 and each of his four title defenses.
