Shardiya Navratri, which began on September 22, 2025, is a festival dedicated to the worship of nine different forms of Goddess Durga. The second day is dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini and the colour on day 2 of Navratri is red.

The Importance Of Day 2: Maa Brahmacharini Katha

Maa Brahmacharini is the second form of Goddess Durga, worshipped on the second day of Navratri. The name Brahmacharini comes from Brahma (knowledge) and Charini (follower), which points to her dedication to being a lifelong spiritual learner. As per HIndu beliefs, Maa Parvati pursues tap (penance) for about 5,000 years to marry Lord Shiva. In her ascetic form, she is worshipped as Maa Brahmacharini. Impressed with her resolve and penance, Lord Shiva eventually marries her.

Devotees believe that praying to Maa Brahmacharini brings inner strength, wisdom, and perseverance. She is depicted wearing white clothes, holding a rosary (mala) in one hand and a water utensil (kamandalu) in the other, which symbolise simplicity, devotion, and detachment from worldly desires. She is also the ruler of Planet Mars, and it is said that devotees who want to get rid of the bad effects of Mangal Dosh from their kundli should pray to this form of Goddess Durga.

Maa Brahmacharini Puja Vidhi And Shubh Muhurat

After getting up early, light a desi ghee diya and offer shringar, white mogra and hibiscus flowers to Goddess Brahmacharini. After this, invoke the goddess by reciting her mantras and doing her aarti. On the second day of Navratri, the Brahma Muhurta for worship is from 4:54 am to 5:41 am, followed by Abhijit Muhurta from 12:08 pm to 12:56 pm. The evening Sandhya Muhurta is from 6:35 pm to 7:46 pm.
