From Taiwo Oluwadare, Ibadan
A patrol van belonging to the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, was on Thursday morning destroyed by fire at Mokola, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. beneath the Mokola flyover bridge when the van, which was conveying operatives of the corps for an operation, suddenly caught fire.
Eyewitnesses said passersby and other motorists made frantic efforts to put out the blaze, but the vehicle was consumed before the arrival of the Oyo State Fire Service.
Fortunately, no life was lost in the incident, though the van was completely burnt beyond repair.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had yet to be ascertained.
