Oba Joseph Oloyede of Ipetumodu, Osun State, has been jailed in the United States.
Christopher Boyko, the trial judge, sentenced the monarch on Tuesday for $4.2 million fraud.
Oba Oloyede and a Nigerian pastor, Edward Oluwasanmi, were arrested in April 2024 for committing COVID 19 fraud totalling $4.2 million.
According to the 13 charge sheet against them, the duo submitted loan applications with false information.
However, Justice Boyko in his ruling on Tuesday sentenced Oloyede to 56 months in prison, ordered him to “serve 3 years of supervised release after imprisonment and pay $4,408,543 in restitution”.
The Nigerian monarch will forfeit the $96,006 that investigators had previously taken, along with his Medina residence, according to a statement released by the US attorney’s office in the northern district of Ohio.
Pastor Oluwasanmi was sentenced to 27 months in prison by the court in July 2025.
