President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a diplomatic and economic mission to Japan and Brazil, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before arriving in Japan.

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, in a statement, said that in Japan, President Tinubu is slated to attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.

The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” focuses on Africa’s economic transformation through private investment, innovation, and sustainable development aimed at enhancing peace and stability on the continent.

During the conference, the Nigerian leader will participate in plenary sessions, engage in bilateral meetings, and hold discussions with CEOs of Japanese companies with existing investments in Nigeria. TICAD, initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, is a triennial event designed to foster high-level policy dialogue between African nations and development partners.

Following TICAD9, President Tinubu will proceed to Brasilia, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. During his stay, he will hold a bilateral meeting with President Lula da Silva and attend a business forum aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties between Nigeria and Brazil.

Accompanied by key ministers and senior government officials, the Nigerian delegation will explore opportunities to deepen cooperation and formalise agreements, including signing Memoranda of Understanding with Brazil.
