Buccaneers Fans React to Kyle Trask’s Impressive NFL Preseason Performance originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Kyle Trask has done his time as a backup quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since they selected him with the 64th overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The former Florida Gators star sat behind Tom Brady in 2022 and Baker Mayfield the past two years.
He has appeared in just seven regular-season games in his NFL career thus far, as Buccaneers fans have seen Trask more often during the preseason.
This was the case again on Saturday, as Trask started the Buccaneers’ 2025 preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. He played the entirety of the first half at Raymond James Stadium, leading Tampa Bay to a 29-7 victory.
Trask went 12-of-16 through the air for 129 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also carried the ball three times for eight yards. The Buccaneers scored on three of the four drives Trask was in.
After this fine performance from Trask, the Buccaneers’ official Twitter/X account asked fans what they thought of his day. Here are some of their responses:
“Kyle looked solid. He is definitely growing as a QB,” said one fan.
“Could be a starter for a few teams. Guy has the winning factor,” commented another.
“Outdueled the #1 overall pick. Killa Kyle,” chimed in one more.
The first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward, started for the Titans. He played two drives in his professional debut, with the first ending in a three-and-out and the second in a touchdown. As the Florida-Miami age-old rivalry continues, Trask can say he won this battle.

“What a luxury to have such a solid back up just waiting and still getting better each year he waits,” a Florida fan commented.
While Trask, in all likelihood, will begin the season as a backup to Mayfield once again this year, it is only a matter of time before he gets his chance as an NFL starter.
