…hands over seized drugs, chemicals to NAFDAC, NESREA

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone B, has seized 250 bags of foreign parboiled rice concealed in a tanker truck and handed over large quantities of unregistered medicaments and chemicals to regulatory agencies.

Public Relations Officer, FOU Zone B, Saidu Nuruddeen, said, customs operatives intercepted the DAF tanker along the Yauri-Kontagora Road in Kebbi State on August 3, 2025.
According to him, the vehicle was escorted to Kaduna, where a physical inspection revealed 250 bags of foreign parboiled rice hidden inside.
The seizure, he added, was valued at ₦20.51 million in duty-paid terms.
“Comptroller AM Alkali, who heads the Unit, praised the officers involved and reaffirmed the Unit’s resolve to intensify anti-smuggling operations through surveillance and intelligence gathering.
“He also commended the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for his leadership and congratulated him on the recent extension of his tenure by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu_, he said.
In a related development, the Unit on July 17, 2025, officially handed over seized medicaments and chemicals to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) in Kaduna.
Items handed over to NAFDAC included 58,740 sachets of 100mg and 50mg drugs and 27 cartons of Analgin injection.
Three sacks containing 990 pieces of Riodin chemical were handed to NESREA.
