    From Sola Ojo, Abuja

The 2023 presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has congratulated Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic fifth consecutive AfroBasket championship win.

Celebrating their triumphant performance on his X space on Monday, August 4, 2025, Obi praised the team for their resilience, skill, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

“Congratulations D’Tigress, you did it,” he said, hailing the team for their remarkable feat at the competition.

“You played like true queens of the court—fearless, fast, and unstoppable,” he added.

D’Tigress have now clinched the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title five times in a row, a record that cements their legacy in African sports history.

Obi commended the team not just for their win, but for the pride they continue to bring to the country.

“Again, you’ve made Nigeria proud, you’ve made Africa proud, and you’ve made history by being the AfroBasket champions five times in a row,” he said.

He extended his heartfelt appreciation to the players, highlighting their hard work and dedication.

“To the players, thank you for giving us your absolute best, for pouring your hearts into every game, and for showing the world what Nigerian excellence looks like. Your prowess on the court was exceptional.”

The former Anambra State governor also gave special recognition to head coach Rena Wakama, whose leadership has been pivotal to the team’s continued success.

“And to Coach Wakama, thank you for your leadership, strategy, and belief in this team. You guided them like a true champion maker,” Obi said.
