Rodriguez leaned on her wrestling and ability to control from top position to frequently dictate where the fight was taking place, depositing Souza on the canvas six times, while also mixing in sporadic success with her strikes. The Brazilian countered by being the more powerful of the two in the striking department, landing with greater individual force, sprinkling in submission attempts out of scrambles when she was able to elevate and shake free from Rodriguez’ clutches.
The judges were tasked with determining the victor and when the scorecards were totalled, it was Rodriguez that came out ahead, earning her second straight win. Now 4-2 in the UFC, the Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS) grad is clearly settling into a style and approach over these last two fights, and it will be interesting to see who she’s paired off with next given her recent success.
