Just a couple of weeks ago, Dustin Poirier faced Max Holloway at UFC 318.

Going into the fight, it was made clear that it would be the last time he stepped into the octagon to fight.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to go out with a bang and finish his career off with a win.

However, a recent announcement from Poirier himself suggests that he might not be done with the UFC just yet.

How will Poirier return to the UFC?

Hearing that Poirier is returning to the UFC just a couple of weeks after competing in his last fight might be slightly confusing.

Fighters have decided to come back despite retiring, as we’ve seen from people like Conor McGregor before.

Although it does happen at times, it still won’t be the case for Poirier.

He went to X on Thursday, posting, “Looking forward to getting back on the ESPN desk going to start focusing on that now.”

What he was referring to was his new job that he will be starting with ESPN, where he will be joining the commentary crew as an analyst.

Poirier is one of the most iconic UFC fighters who has stepped into the octagon.

He has a career record of 30-10 (1) and a record of 22-9 (1) in the UFC.

It will be great hearing such an experienced fighter doing color commentating and breakdowns on the action once he joins ESPN.

MMA is a complex sport that requires knowledgeable talking heads doing coverage, so it’s important to have people like Poirier join the commentary booth.
