    From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Asisat Oshoala has reiterated that she’s not retiring soon, saying she don’t know where the suggestion came from, insisting she won’t be distracted.

Speaking to Arise News at the Presidential Villa, shortly after the reception organised in by President Bola Tinubu, for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Speaking on the rumoured retirement, she said: I am not retiring. I don’t know where that news came from. I don’t know why they started it but at the end of the day I’m just here to play football and focus on my teammates and as you can see we just won the trophy right now and this is…I’m just trying to enjoy the moment and I’m not about to let anything override the whole success of the team right now.”

Oshoala also spoke on Super Falcon’s victory, saying: “We’ve always wanted to, like, take a step further every year. And this is what we’re focused on.

“There’s other big top tournaments coming up, the World Cup, the Olympics, and all of these things. We want to be better at these tournaments as well.”

Speaking on the grand reception in their honour where they got l 3-Bedroom Flats, $100,000 cash prizes, and National Honours of OON, the six-time African Player of the Year, said: “I mean, this is beautiful. To be honest, I’m used to winning trophies, and the feeling is always fresh and new every time. It’s always different, different experience. And what I usually say to people is, it’s not about winning the trophy. It’s about the journey that leads to winning the trophy. If you enjoy each day, enjoy the moment, at the end of the day, it’s not about the trophy.

So for me, I’ve always had fun each edition, but I would still go for the first one, Namibia.”
