    From Jude Chinedu, Enugu

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons for their extraordinary comeback victory against Morocco to clinch the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the President-General of the group, Goodluck Ibem, described the Falcons’ 3-2 win at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat as a source of “immense pride and joy” for all Nigerians.

“The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex sociopolitical youth group in the South East geopolitical zone, joyfully congratulates our indomitable Super Falcons for their incredible resilience and determination in securing the 2024 WAFCON title. Their stunning comeback from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat has filled every Nigerian heart with immense pride and joy,” the statement read.

Ibem emphasised that the victory was not only a testament to the team’s skill and dedication but also a reflection of the “unwavering support from our nation.”

“This historic victory is not just a testament to the skill and dedication of our female footballers but also a reflection of the unwavering support from our nation.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his encouragement and belief in the potential of our Super Falcons, which undoubtedly ignited the fighting spirit that led to this remarkable triumph. His leadership and commitment to promoting sports in Nigeria inspire athletes across all disciplines.”

COSEYL also praised the role of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, calling him “a true football lover and supporter of the sport.”

“We would also like to acknowledge Distinguish Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a true football lover and supporter of the sport, whose encouragement and passion have played a vital role in motivating our players. His engagement with our athletes highlights the importance of strong leadership and active participation in fostering a culture of excellence in Nigerian sports.”

The group lauded the Falcons for exemplifying the values of teamwork, perseverance, and national pride.

“The Super Falcons have not only brought home a prestigious title, but they have also showcased the power of teamwork, perseverance, and national pride. This victory serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for Nigerian youth, demonstrating that with determination and support, anything is achievable.”

COSEYL urged Nigerians to continue supporting women’s sports, saying such encouragement will pave the way for future success stories.

“As we celebrate this phenomenal achievement, COSEYL urges all Nigerians to rally behind our athletes and continue to support women’s sports, paving the way for future generations to thrive in their chosen paths. Once again, congratulations to the Super Falcons for their hard-fought victory, and we look forward to seeing even greater achievements in the future,” he said.
