Elected officials across Lagos State’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) will be officially sworn into office on Sunday, July 27, marking the commencement of their new tenures following the recently concluded local government elections.

The swearing-in ceremony comes after the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a landslide victory in the July 12 elections, winning all 57 chairmanship positions and 375 out of 376 councillorship seats contested across the state.

The elections, organised by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), were conducted across 13,325 polling units.

Despite a low voter turnout, the process was largely peaceful and free of major incidents.

A total of 376 councillorship seats and 57 chairmanship and vice-chairmanship positions were contested. Of the 19 registered political parties in the state, 15 participated in the elections.

The APC fielded candidates in all available positions, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contested in 45 councils and 259 wards. The Labour Party (LP) participated in 22 LGAs and 130 wards.

Meanwhile, in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, the Chairman-elect, Hon Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, popularly known as HOA, has pledged to usher in a new era of transformational development for his community.

In a statement issued following his victory, Aroyewun expressed profound gratitude to the electorate for their support and confidence in his leadership. He described his win as a collective mandate for inclusive governance and meaningful progress.

“I am honoured and humbled by the support of the good people of Igbogbo Baiyeku. This mandate is a call to action, and I assure everyone that our administration will be defined by transparency, innovation, and an unwavering focus on improving the quality of life for all residents,” he stated.

Aroyewun outlined his administration’s key priorities, including road rehabilitation, improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, enhanced healthcare services, quality education, and local security. He also emphasised support for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), market development, and effective waste management as critical areas of focus.

The new local government and council officials are expected to begin work immediately after their inauguration to deliver on their campaign promises and improve governance at the grassroots level.
