    From Godwin Tsa, Abuja

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, will lead a brainstorming session to address the menace of illegal property sales, fake developers, and anti-money laundering remedies in Nigeria’s real estate sector.

The flagship policy dialogue, organised by Law Corridor as part of its quarterly engagements, is scheduled for August 6, 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel. It will convene key stakeholders from both public and private sectors, including actors directly or indirectly involved in the real estate value chain, for robust, solutions-driven conversations on fraudulent practices undermining the sector.

Discussions will focus on critical issues affecting Nigeria’s real estate ecosystem, including illegal property sales, the prevalence of fake developers, unlicensed agents, investment scams, anti-money laundering compliance, and access to legal remedies.

Stakeholders expected at the event include the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, the Managing Partner of Omaplex Law Firm, Oyetola Muyiwa Atoyebi (SAN), the Managing Partner of Afe Babalola & Co., Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), and the Director of the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML), Harry Erin, among other relevant stakeholders from both public and private sectors.

A statement by Ayokunle Erin Jacob, Practice Group Lead for Real Estate, Construction & Infrastructure at Law Corridor, noted that the organisers will publish a policy brief summarising insights, stakeholder recommendations, and a roadmap for reform, which will be presented to relevant government ministries and agencies after the event.
