Celtics-Grizzlies Trade Report Receives Final Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

On Thursday, a rumor from Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer revealed that the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies had discussed a trade. Fischer didn’t go into details, but he added that Anfernee Simons and/or Georges Niang could be traded.

“As we discussed, I think the Celtics are still very active in taking trade calls—maybe even making trade calls. There was some conversation last week between Memphis and Boston about something. We’re still looking to track down more info on that. But rival teams are definitely still under the impression that Boston is looking for deals involving both Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang,” Fischer said.

Simons will make almost $27.7 million for the 2025-26 season, while Niang will make $8.2 million. Right now, the Celtics can trade them, but neither can be traded with any other players at the moment.

However, even though the Celtics and Grizzlies have been in touch, there appear to be no indications that a trade is imminent. ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel gave a rather final report on where the Celtics and Grizzlies stand on a possible trade involving Simons.

“There isn’t any trade,” Siegel wrote. “It was Boston exploring Anfernee Simons’ market and seeing what they could potentially get, in addition to freeing up money that would’ve been utilized on Dame. No trade ever materialized because Lillard wasn’t going to Boston.”

Lillard decided to return to the Portland Trail Blazers instead of joining the Celtics. The Celtics and Grizzlies have been trade partners in recent years, including when Boston sent Marcus Smart to Memphis in 2023 and when Memphis sent Boston Xavier Tillman in 2024.
