African Bar Association (ABA) has sent a message of condolence to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
On behalf of the association, its President, High Chief Ibrahim Mark, expressed condolences and extended sincere sympathy to the family of Buhari, and the Nigerian government and people.
The group noted that Buhari was an important leader of Nigeria, saying that he dedicated himself to exploring a development path suited to his country’s national conditions, made outstanding contributions to national unity and progress, and was highly respected in the international community.
In his letter on behalf of ABA, Ibrahim Mark stated: “Late President Buhari was not just a statesman, he was a patriot who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria nation, both as a Military Governor of North-East State, Minister of Petroleum, Federal Republic of Nigeria and Chairman, Petroleum Trust Fund.
“In all these, his life was marked by discipline, personal service and a steadfast commitment to national integrity, anti-corruption, public accountability, justice, peace and progress.
“As a military head of state, he ensured the reign of discipline in the conduct of public and private affairs of Nigerians, especially towards public and private funds, knowing full well that one will be called to account for any infractions.”
It noted that through times of national turbulence and transition, the late former president remained a symbol of resilience and principled leadership.
“His tenure witnessed notable efforts in rebuilding infrastructure and restoring Nigeria’s standing on the international stage. His legacy will be remembered in the annals of our history as one shaped by a quiet strength and enduring to the ideas of united Nigeria.
“As we mourn his death, we not only grieve the monumental loss of a leader but celebrate the enduring value and legacy he leaves behind,” the group stated.
