Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has expressed gratitude to the people of Lagos State for their peaceful and orderly participation in the local government elections held across the state on Saturday, July 12.

In a statement released shortly after polls closed, the governor commended residents for turning out to perform their civic responsibility, describing the conduct of voters across polling units as a reflection of the true spirit of Lagos, one rooted in participation, progress, and people-centred governance.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all Lagosians who came out today to perform their civic duty in the local government elections. Your peaceful conduct, sense of responsibility, and turnout have once again demonstrated the essence of Lagos as the Centre of Excellence,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He praised various groups in the state, including youths, elders, market women, artisans, and professionals, for voting with dignity and maintaining order throughout the process.

The governor also acknowledged the vital roles played by security agencies, the media, and electoral officials, applauding their professionalism and dedication to ensuring a safe and credible election.

“As we await the official results from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), I urge all candidates and political actors to remain calm, respectful, and law-abiding,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu described the election as a significant step in strengthening grassroots democracy and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building an inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous Lagos.

“Let us keep this spirit alive as we continue to build the Lagos of our dreams. Thank you for your trust, your voice, and your votes,” the governor said.
