Bowling advice shared by Aussies pacers is helping the Indian bowlers in England. Josh Hazelwood’s tip of “sticking to strengths and waiting for batsmen to make mistakes” came in handy for Akash Deep when he had a match-haul of 10 wickets in the the second Test at Edgbaston.

Now all-rounder Nitish Reddy went on to mention his IPL franchise Sun Risers Hyderabad captain, the Aussie great Pat Cummins, after he got the wickets of England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley on Day 1 of the Lord’s Test.

“After the Australia tour I felt like I have to improve my bowling. I just asked Pat what’s the difference between Australia and England since this is my first tour. He said that it’s not going to be like a different change but you watch about the weather conditions and just play your game,” said Reddy at the post-match press conference after England finished at 251/4.

The all-rounder was also asked about the possibility of him getting 5 wickets and getting his name on the Lord’s honour board. To which he replied, “Since I got some bit of swing both ways and I just want to be consistent over all areas. I have been doing a lot of hard work ,,, I have to believe in myself. I would be so happy if I got named on the board.”

Reddy also recalled his days of injury and recovery. “Initially they asked you to take it easy but I gradually increased workload during the IPL. To be honest, after the injury it has been a bit tough for me to get on my rhythm. Obviously I got a side strain and it has been hurting me a bit after the injury as well. So at the end of the IPL season I got my bowling and started going to the matches,” he answered. “I am pretty happy the way I bowled today and I just want to continue tomorrow and get some wickets from the team.”

Reddy also said that he wasn’t too mindful of the Lord’s slope and how it impacted his bowling. “I don’t know about the slope and much but from that end (Nursery end) when I bowled it has been moving a lot and after pitching also it is going good. And I feel great about bowling that end,” he replied.

The pace all-rounder also shared the wisdom shared by his seniors Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. “”They always speak about being consistent. It isn’t just about bowling those good balls. We are playing against top-class batsmen as well. It’s not like if you bowl an in-swinger or an out-swinger, you are getting a wicket. So we just keep simple plans,” he said.
