New signing Joao Pedro said he could not have had a better start after grabbing a brace to help Chelsea reach the Club World Cup final.
Enzo Maresca’s side beat Brazilian club Fluminense 2-0 on Tuesday to set up a mouth-watering final against either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid on Sunday.
Joao Pedro, who joined from Brighton last week, saw his 20 yard strike fly into the top corner for his first goal before his second crashed in off the underside of the bar.
Speaking after the game, the 23-year-old said bagging a brace in his first start for Chelsea was a “dream start”.
The Brazilian striker said, “I think it was a dream first start – I don’t think it could’ve been better.”
Joao Pedro added, “I’m very happy. I want to help the team. I knew I could score today, and that’s what I did. The team controlled the game today, did really well today and now we’re focused on the final.
“I think we have a great team, great players and it’s a pleasure to play with them. I think this season can be a great season for us.”
