Perusing yoga mats on Amazon is a pastime shared by many of us. Given the site’s frequent deals, it makes nabbing a new mat an accessible endeavor. Yet the site’s endless options and surplus of sales can make practicing mindful discernment something of a challenge—which is where we come in. Below are some of the best yoga mats on Amazon, selected based on previous testing, personal experience, and online reviews from thousands of satisfied shoppers.

5 Best Yoga Mats on Amazon

Whether you’re seeking a forever mat, an on-the-go option, or something in between, you’re bound to find a match.

    1. Manduka Pro Yoga Mat

    (Photo: Manduka)

    Available for $138

    Pros and Cons
    ⊕ Dense cushioning
    ⊕ Easy to clean
    ⊕ Wider than many mats
    ⊗ Heavy
    ⊗ Slippery when sweaty

We could go on and on about the Manduka Pro (and we have). The mat is designed to “last a lifetime,” and that shows in how supportive, durable, and reliable it is. Many who opt for Manduka never go back, with testers citing the mat’s dense cushioning and ability to support any sort of practice (and body type) as reasons.

It is, however, heavy. Rather than toting it to class, one editor opts to keep the Pro at home and lets the Manduka’s eKo serve as her on-the-go option.

    2. Liforme Original Yoga Mat

    Available for $155

    Pros and Cons
    ⊕ Aesthetically pleasing
    ⊕ Super grippy
    ⊕ Ideal thickness
    ⊗ Sorta heavy
⊗ Easily scuffed (but also easy to clean)

Liforme may boast the highest price tag on our list, but it also comes with a dedicated fanbase, which is telling combination. It also has a strong enough pull to draw devotees of other brands into its sleek and grippy orbit.

One of our editors notes that, in addition to being nice to look at (aka gorgeous), her Liforme is incredibly grippy. Another editor adds that its grip is well-balanced and supports her while allowing her to transition easily from pose to pose. The Liforme is also balanced in terms of thickness and cushioning. “I feel solid balancing on it without feeling like I’m wobbling,” one editor says. Although relatively thin, it’s also well-suited to yin and restorative classes.

The mat may be somewhat heavy but it’s significantly lighter than the Manduka Pro. And although it does scuff and show marks fairly easily, its smooth surface is a cinch to clean.

    3. Jade Harmony Yoga Mat

    Available for $100

    Pros and Cons
    ⊕ Grippy texture
    ⊕ Made of natural rubber
    ⊗ Attracts fuzz and fur
    ⊗ Difficult to clean

For many fans of grippy and sticky mats, Jade is a reliable favorite. One of our teacher testers who has been practicing yoga for YEARS prefers the Jade Harmony to all other mats. Another attests that it lasts “forever” (in her case, a decade and counting); one notes its great texture; and yet another points to its sustainable contents (the mat is crafted with natural, thoughtfully sourced rubber).

Still, one editor notes that mat is almost too grippy (think suction cup) and that any spec of dust and lint is destined to attach to its surface (and frustratingly difficult to clean).

    4. Retrospec Solana Yoga Mat

    Available for $40

    Pros and Cons
    ⊕ Major cushioning
    ⊕ Long and wide
    ⊗ Wears over time

With more than 13,000 reviews and a 4.5-star rating, this super cushy mat from Restrospec is a fan favorite—particularly for those dealing with injuries or tender joints. One Amazon reviewer notes that the 1-inch-thick mat could even be used as a sleeping pad in a pinch. While this is a bonus for those who prioritize comfort, it can actually be a drawback if you need to move a lot on your mat (as in vinyasa class).

While many fans purport the mat to be well-made, a fair few note signs of wear with regular use.

    5. Gaiam Yoga Mat

    Available for $18

    Pros and Cons
    ⊕ Lightweight
    ⊕ Affordable
    ⊕ Fun colors and designs
    ⊗ Slightly slippery
    ⊗ Short

If you gravitate toward a mat that doesn’t take itself too seriously, get a Gaiam. Available for around $20 in an array of colors and designs, the Gaiam is a great option for beginners.

Gaiam’s mats may be relatively thin, but they retain a certain level of cushiness, comfortably supporting the practices of both twenty-something and 70-something testers alike. Its lightweight nature means that, unlike most options, it can also serve as a travel mat. Our testers add that, compared to other mats at similar price points, Gaiam is neither “too hard” nor “too slippery” and allows for the ideal amount of movement.
