Sophie Cunningham Posts One Word After Fever’s Championship Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever were in Minnesota on Tuesday night as they faced the Lynx in the Commissioner’s Cup championship. They went 4-1 en route to the finals, including wins over the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, New York Liberty and Washington Mystics.
It certainly wasn’t going to be an easy task with star guard Caitlin Clark out due to a groin injury and facing a Lynx squad that entered the night with a league-best 14-2 record.
Things weren’t looking good early on as the Fever fell behind by 13. However, they surged back and put their foot on the pedal the rest of the way to win 74-59. Forward Natasha Howard led the way with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
Guard Sophie Cunningham had a great night off the bench, adding 13 points, seven rebounds and one assist.
After the game, Cunningham took to social media to share a photo with her teammates celebrating in the locker room, adding a one-word caption to the post.
“yurppppppp,” the 6-foot-1 guard wrote.

Cunningham is in her first season with the Fever after being traded in the offseason from the Phoenix Mercury. A second-round pick by Phoenix in 2019, she spent six seasons there after playing four years of college basketball for the Missouri Tigers.
Entering Tuesday night, she was averaging 5.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game this season.
Cunningham and the Fever will celebrate this one, but they will soon get ready for Thursday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
