Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma yesterday gave a comprehensive account of his stewardship with a verdict that his administration had built a new Imo the citizens should be proud of.

Tracing his first year year in office to the 18 months in his second tenure, Uzodimma expressed satisfaction that he had put Imo on an irreversible path of sustainable development.

In a state of the state address, he presented at the Imo State House of Assembly and cheered by major stakeholders across political divides, the governor described his stewardship as people oriented, anchored on transparency and accountability.

he explained that he decided to present the address to brief the members of the House and the public on the progress his administration had made since his assumption of office, especially in the second tenure.

He took time to present the sectoral achievements, from education and health to education, digital economy and road infrastructure, emphasising that his programme and policies had been results of deliberate planning.

He noted that although he met a state that was under the spell of institutional decay and infrastructural deficits, he went to work determined to ensure that the people were offered quality and accountable governance.

He also disclosed that his focus on workers welfare, including prompt payment of salaries and pensions and the recent clearance of backlog of pensions, was targeted at ensuring that the economy of the state was people’s friendly.

He was happy that the administration’s road revolution, the revamping of the health and education sectors and the recent successes recorded in the digital economy and technology have impacted positively on the citizens of the state.

He also listed the light up Imo project as a revolutionary step taken by his administration to accelerate the economic development of the state.

He declared: “When a state has steady power, motorable roads, skilled youth, and pro-business policies, it doesn’t beg for investment. It becomes the destination of choice for investors “

He announced that when the dredging of Oguta Lake to the Atlantic ocean project is completed, it would also aid the economic advancement of the state.

He was optimistic that the steps taken so far in the economic sector would certainly lead the state to its destination of being the business hub of the South East.

The governor used the opportunity to list the achievements of his administration in the last 28 months to include the iconic Assumpta Flyover, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, tens of roads and the improvement in Imo Airport, leading to its first international flight recently. He also listed the conduct of the local government elections.

He said: “We are witnessing an Imo with well paved, durable roads, modernised infrastructure and revitalised public facilities, a reinvigorated civil service operating in a modern workspace and the promise of 24/7 electricity with economic expansion on the horizon, powered by the atlantic access project “

He said he was satisfied that a new Imo has emerged based on the achievements recorded by his administration since 2020.
