When Prasidh Krishna forced Ollie Pope to get the leading edge on Day 3 which flew behind for Rishabh Pant to take the catch, the Indian wicketkeeper joined an elite list. By snapping up Pope’s catch, Pant became only the 3rd Indian wicketkeeper to complete 150 catches in Test matches.

Apart from Pant, only MS Dhoni and Syed Kirmani are the Indian wicketkeepers who have achieved this feat. Pant took 44 matches to get to 150 catches while Dhoni has 256 catches in 90 matches. Kirmani, meanwhile, has 160 catches in 88 matches.

Pant has been breaking records in the Leeds Test with the batter going past MS Dhoni for the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket, bringing up his seventh on the second day of the series opener against England.

Pant struck a six off the first ball of the 100th over of India’s first innings, clearing the fence off Shoaib Bashir to bring up the milestone.

It was his first century since September 2024 when he scored 109 against Bangladesh.

In 90 Tests, Dhoni had scored 4,876 runs with six tons and 33 fifties at an average of 38.09 and remains the highest run-scorer as an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in Tests.

Pant, who completed 3,000 runs during this innings of 134 off 178 balls (12×4; 6×6), also has 15 fifties in 44 Tests and averages nearly 44.

The third in this list is Wriddhiman Saha with two centuries, followed by Syed Kirmani and Farokh Engineer with two each. Nayan Mongia has also scored one century.

Pant also hit an entertaining 178-ball 134 as India amassed 471 against England under new skipper Shubman Gill on Day 2 of the opening Test.

In England’s innings, Jasprit Bumrah (3/48) was exceptional, grabbing all the England wickets that fell on Day 2, including that of the dangerous Joe Root. England, though, recovered from the early loss of opener Zak Crawley (4) to end the day on 209 for 3 in reply to India’s first innings total. One-down.
