Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said violent attacks and explosions that claimed over 50 lives in Borno, Kano, Plateau and Kebbi states are a devastating blow to the nation’s collective conscience.

On Saturday, the police in Kano confirmed that five persons were killed and 10 injured in a bomb explosion that occurred in a factory located along Ring Road, Mariri Quarters of the state.

In Borno, 12 people died while 18 sustained injuries when a female suicide bomber detonated an explosive in a fish market located in Konduga Local Government Area of the state.

The Kebbi State Government disclosed over the weekend that 30 people lost their lives in the recent wave of banditry attacks in parts of the Zuru Emirate.

In Plateau, 12 guests travelling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to attend a wedding ceremony in Qua’an Pan LGA of Plateau State were killed by irate youths in Mangun village, Mangu Local Government Area of the state, on Friday night.

Reacting in a Facebook post on Saturday, Atiku said, “The heartbreaking reports from Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi where over 50 lives were lost in violent attacks and explosions are a devastating blow to our collective conscience as a nation.

“My deepest sympathies go to the bereaved families and the affected communities. These tragedies are not mere statistics they are real stories of shattered families and stolen dreams.

“We cannot continue to normalise this scale of bloodshed. Nigeria urgently needs a decisive, people-centered approach to security, one that prioritises human life above all else.

“May the departed rest in peace.”
