Freshman athlete Marquise Henderson is officially in the NCAA transfer portal following his dismissal from the Clemson football program.

Henderson announced on Friday that Clemson had submitted his notification of transfer, making him eligible to be recruited by other schools. The news came a day after Clemson confirmed his dismissal in a brief statement, offering no details about the decision.

“Clemson has made the decision to dismiss Marquise Henderson from its program. We wish him the best as he moves forward,” the university said in a release.

The Belton, South Carolina native joined Clemson as part of the 2024 signing class and enrolled in January 2025. He did not participate in the spring game and saw limited action during spring practices, as head coach Dabo Swinney noted in March that Henderson was working through a hamstring injury.

Though he never suited up for the Tigers in a game, Henderson arrived with a strong high school résumé. At Belton-Honea Path High School, he was a record-setting running back who also contributed as a returner. He rushed for 6,369 yards on 577 carries — an average of 11 yards per attempt — and totaled just under 8,000 all-purpose yards across 47 games. His play helped lead his team to the 2024 Class AAAA State Semifinals, and he earned a four-star rating as a prospect.

Henderson now becomes one of the more intriguing portal names among freshman athletes.
