The deceased has been identified as Nitin Sankpal (35) of Rajnagar in Mukundwadi.
Nitin dined at a local eatery with his brother and friend, after which he stepped out to urinate behind a nearby poultry shop. Qureshi objected to this. “The argument escalated. A fight ensued between the three men and Qureshi. In a fit of rage, Qureshi allegedly grabbed a cleaver used for chopping meat and attacked all the three men,” police said, according to TOI report.
Nitin died on the spot, while the other two were rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Police have invoked sections of scheduled caste, scheduled tribe (prevention of atrocities) act and BNS sections for murder, attempt to murder, unlawful assembly and rioting.
“The accused were produced before the special (SC ST prevention of atrocities Act) court on Friday, following which the accused were granted bail due to technical reasons,” deputy commissioner of police Prashant Swami was quoted as saying in the TOI report
Taking cognizance of the murder incident, civic body launched an anti-encroachment drive on Friday morning in which 229 shops, including tin shades, garages, washing centres and pucca constructions that were being operated from the encroached piece of land were demolished.
