A fire broke out on the railroad tracks near the South Block Apartments early Monday morning, June 16, prompting a swift response from the Salem Fire Department. The blaze was reported at 8:19 AM, and a large black cloud of smoke was soon visible over downtown Salem.
The railroad tracks where the fire occurred run alongside the South Block Apartments and are in close proximity to Riverfront Park and Minto-Brown Island Park.
