    From Jude Owuamanam Jos

As part of activities marking the 2025 Democracy Day and his second year in office, Governor Caleb Mutfwang yesterday inaugurated 15 buses to boost the state transport service.

The luxury buses brought the fleet of the metro bus service to 30.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Old Government House, Rayfield Jos, the governor said the event marked a significant milestone in the journey to revive Plateau Express Service, which is one of the legacy institutions of Plateau State.

He said the inauguration of the bus service was in fulfilment of the mandate given to governors by President Bola Tinubu to all tiers of government to do everything possible to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.

“In response, we decided that one of the most effective ways to cushion the impact of the fuel subsidy removal was to invest in the transport sector and return the subsidy directly to the people.

“Transportation is a critical component of daily life and I am pleased that we now have a functional public transport system within the Jos metropolis, one that is already yielding benefits.

“The joy, applause, and celebrations that greeted the arrival of these buses in town gave me renewed energy. It’s proof that when the government listens and acts, the people respond with gratitude and hope.”

Mutfwang said his administration is also reviving ASTC, GIB, Paiyan Fish Farm, Hill Station Hotel, Plateau Hotel, and other legacy project’s in the state and assured the people that the journey had just begun

He said he received reassurances from President Tinubu when he met him in Lagos that he (Tinubu) had listed

the  Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road as his fourth legacy project, adding that he is ready to put politics aside and focus on the development of the state.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Jato Yiljap, said the 15 new buses will add a great deal to the services of the company.

General Manager of Plateau Express Services Limited, Mr. Samuel Gwott, who described the commissioning ceremony as a landmark, said at the onset of this initiative, there was some confusion among the public regarding its ownership.

Mutfwang also inaugurated the Utokong/Abattoir bridge and modern equipment at the Plateau Specialist Hospital amongst others.
