Khan was also indicted for providing support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and attempting to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries. He is now scheduled to make an initial appearance in court on June 11, the statement read.
“The foreign terrorist organization ISIS remains a clear and present danger to the American people, and our Jewish citizens are especially targeted by evil groups like these,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said.
Bondi added that the Department of Justice is proud to help secure this extradition, and we will prosecute this man to the fullest extent of the law.”
Mass Shooting And Terror Attack: Charges Against Muhammad Shahzeb Khan
FBI Chief Kash Patel said that Muhammad Shahzeb Khan allegedly tried to enter the US to commit an attack on the Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York City, and had also planned an “ISIS-inspired mass shooting around the one-year anniversary of the attack on Gaza by Hamas (on Oct 7).”
“Thankfully, the great work of the FBI and our partners shut that down, and Khan has now been extradited to New York to face American justice. I want to thank our teams and partners for their diligent work in this case and for executing the mission,” he added.
Khan has been accused of planning to use automatic weapons to kill members of the Jewish community, all in support of ISIS, said US Attorney Jay Clayton for the Southern District of New York.
The law enforcement agencies thwarted his “deadly antisemitic plan”; he will now face “justice in New York”.
Khan was provisionally arrested in Canada last year on September 4, after a complaint was filed in the Southern District of New York. The complaint stated Khan’s sinister plans. It also flagged his social media posts and communication with others on an encrypted messaging application about his support for ISIS in or about November 2023.
He had then distributed ISIS propaganda videos and literature and subsequently began communicating with two undercover law enforcement officers, the statement added.
