Think of this as a more grown-out crew cut with more movement and texture. “With its textured top and slightly tighter sides, it’ll still look great even on days when you skip product as it has built-in shape and movement,” says Connor.
What to ask for: Ask your barber to keep the top anywhere from one to three inches and use texturizing scissors only—no blunt cutting. “That’ll maximize movement at a short length,” Connor explains. Taper the sides with scissors or clippers about two to three levels shorter than the top. “Avoid a bald fade,” he adds, “as that requires more maintenance in the long run.”
Styling Products: Connor recommends a matte-finish clay or texturizing powder. “You can even embrace skipping a shampoo or two,” he says, as “the natural oils add a different look day to day.”

The longest on this list, this flowy, full of personality, and “I woke up like this and somehow look chic” style is very popular ATM. “It’s very low-maintenance and has an undressed vibe that makes it feel effortless,” says Connor.
What to ask for: Ask your barber or stylist to add lots of layers throughout to create a natural, flowing movement. “Texture and separation make this cut come to life,” Connor explains. It typically starts at ear-grazing length and can grow down a bit.”
Styling Products: Use a small amount of styling paste or pomade, rub it through locks and “break it up with your fingers for a soft, natural finish,” Connor recommends.
