Nigeria will play all their group stage matches at the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Zanzibar, the scenic Tanzanian archipelago in the Indian Ocean, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced details of the competition scheduled to run from August 2 to 30, 2025.

The Super Eagles B, silver medalists in the 2018 edition and bronze winners in 2014, have been drawn into Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, Congo, and Sudan. Originally excluded from the competition, Congo was reinstated into Nigeria’s group following the disqualification of Equatorial Guinea by CAF’s Appeals Committee.

This year’s tournament will serve as a preparatory test event for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. As such, all three nations will co-host CHAN 2025, with group stage and knockout matches spread across major cities in the region.

CAF confirmed that the opening match will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Uganda will host group stage fixtures at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, while the final match is slated for the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nigeria booked their place in the finals after a convincing 3-1 aggregate victory over Ghana in their qualifying fixture played in December 2024.

The tournament is exclusively for players who ply their trade in domestic leagues, offering a vital platform for emerging talent across the continent.

    CHAN 2025 Group Breakdown:

GROUP A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia (Nairobi)

GROUP B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic (Dar es Salaam)

GROUP C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, Algeria (Kampala)

GROUP D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria (Zanzibar)
